It was announced Thursday January 17th 2025 that Film Director David Lynch died of emphysema at the age of 78, just a few days before his 79th birthday on Monday. Both Lindsay and Manson paid tribute to Lynch on Instagram, with Lindsay posting in her stories a broken heart under the poster for Wild at Heart and Manson posting the poster for Lost Highway with the message: "May you live forever inside our dreams." Manson and Lindsay have both said that Wild at Heart (1990) is their favorite Lynch film and favorite romance film, to the point where their wedding theme in 2020 was inspired by Wild at Heart , and they even invited Nicolas Cage, the star of the film, to attend, which he did via a video call. Also, a quote from the film spoken by Crispin Glover can be heard in the song "Lunchbox", when you hear: "I'm making my lunch!" Manson's first film appearance was as a snuff film pornstar along with bandmate Twiggy Ramirez in Lynch's film Lost ...
The last time Marilyn Manson played in the Mexican city of Monterrey was November 5, 2003 during his Grotesk Burlesk tour, and it was one of the most controversial concerts in the strange musical history of Monterrey. The streets and public squares were filled with protesters, especially in front of the State Government Palace, the State Congress and some churches, primarily by various evangelical and conservative groups, where they were passing out religious pamphlets and gathering signatures to persuade the city to cancel Marilyn Manson's upcoming performance. It was argued that Marilyn Manson was a harmful character for youth, who spread violence, sex, satanism, drug use and suicide. It didn't help Manson's situation when almost two years earlier, on January 29, 2002, a teenager named Julio Castrillón mercilessly murdered Ana Nassar, a 13-year-old girl. This murder was one of the most macabre crimes in the history of Monterrey, and it sparked a debate much like the Columbine massacre had a few years prior in the United States, where a cause was sought in entertainment, and the fact that Julio Castrillón was reportedly a big fan of Marilyn Manson added to the fuel of fear and rage when the time came for him to play in Monterrey in November 2003.
The city government of Monterrey at the time decided not to meddle in the matter of Marilyn Manson coming to Monterrey in 2003, so the show went on. Crowds of fans gathered at the airport and hotel where Manson was staying hoping to get a photo or autograph of the man who was at the center of so much controversy. The atmosphere was so murky that the hotel had more than normal municipal police and State Public Security. During the concert at the Parque Fundidora, groups of people surrounded the venue to continue to pray and protest with banners, handing out flyers of religious content, and people preaching with sound devices, while others more directly addressing young people going to the concert to try to convince them to move away from Marilyn Manson's bad influence. These conservative groups were awaiting a wave of violence and suicide after the concert. 200 police officers were stationed outside. The media coverage was huge, in fact, some of the people who attended the concert didn't even know who Marilyn Manson was, they were just curious to see what all the controversy was about. The protests and campaigns against the event only made great publicity for the concert, obtaining the opposite effect. And it only helped that in a press conference before the event Marilyn Manson was charming and gave smart responses to all the controversy, as can be seen in the video below. It should be noted that the police only ended up making six arrests that day, 4 for fighting and 2 for slamming doors. Looking back in a 2010 interview with Playboy Mexico when asked about what he thought about the controversy in Monterrey in 2003, Manson replied with a subtle laugh: "It scared me a little. I remember Monterrey ... wow."

21 years later it was announced that Marilyn Manson would finally be returning to Monterrey, but instead of the controversy he faced in 2003, this time the announcement came with great excitement. For eleven years Machaca Rock Fest had run smoothly and it was a popular rock festival for the area, but in 2023 there was great disappointment when the headliner Korn had to cancel their appearance last minute due to issues with their plane, and due to lack of communication about the incident it harmed the reputation of the event and many believed the rock festival could never recover. Organizers dispelled doubts however when for 2024 they moved the festival from June to November 30th, changed the venue from the Parque Fundidora to the Explanada Expo Guadalupe, exclusively featured rock bands, and focused the promotion primarily on Marilyn Manson's return. This brought renewed excitement for the festival and proved successful by the results.
Though Marilyn Manson opened for Limp Bizkit, one media report noted that based on the appearance of the audience alone, it was clear the majority of the people came to mainly see Marilyn Manson. After the performance media headlines read "Manson Unleashes His Metal Power at Machaca Rock Fest" and "Marilyn Manson Conquers Machaca". It was also reported how security did an impeccable job at the concert, quickly responding to the number of women who fainted especially during the Manson performance.
Manson played shortly after 10:00pm, featuring music from the following setlist:
Intro (unnamed)
We Know Where You Fucking Live
Disposable Teens
Angel with the Scabbed Wings
This Is the New Shit
SAY10
Deep Six
Tourniquet
mOBSCENE
The Dope Show
As Sick as the Secrets Within
Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
The Love Song
The Beautiful People
A notable difference from the other concerts this past year was the opening song before the Intro, which was "Infinity" by The xx, which I believe Manson once stated he thought was the most romantic song. Also, during "The Love Song", Manson for the first time since his return dressed in an outfit reminiscent of the Holy Wood era, with the black apache warrior stripe, black hat and horse tail with feathers on one shoulder. Throughout his energetic performance, Manson was clad in leather, complimented with different outfit changes and set changes for various songs.
One Mexican reviewer summed things up nicely this way:
"Marilyn Manson unleashed a storm of energy at Machaca Rock Fest! 🎤🌟 With his unmistakable style and stage presence, the 'Antichrist Superstar' took fans on a dark and captivating journey. From the very first chords, the audience was mesmerized by their iconic songs and their theatrical performance. Tracks like 'The Beautiful People' and 'This Is the New Shit' brought the stage to vibrate, creating an electrifying atmosphere filled with passion and excitement. Marilyn Manson proved why he is a rock legend and left an indelible mark on the festival. What an unforgettable show! 🤘"

As I mentioned on September 5th, when it was announced that Manson would be performing as an opener for Limp Bizkit at Machaca Rock Fest 2024, there was much anticipation how things would go with Manson performing that night on the same stage as guitarist Wes Borland, who had brought public accusations against Manson. Primarily the accusations centered on the fact that he considered Manson a horrible person, having played guitar in Marilyn Manson for about three shows years ago and then being let go by Manson. Being fired from the band left him butthurt, so at every opportunity over the years he would criticize Manson to the media, and when Evan Rachel Wood brought accusations against Manson in 2021, he went so far as to not only support Evan, but he even would say absurd things like: "Believe everything these women say; I've seen it." Of course, he never really did see anything that Manson was accused of, but his goal was to hurt Manson as much as possible, probably because he felt humiliated by his firing. Furthermore, in January 2023, Borland filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife known as Queen Kwong for statements she made during an interview about Borland, which revealed how much of a horrible person he in fact is, but within a few months his lawsuit was dismissed for not meeting the criteria of defamation.
As we found out through a video released by the periodical El Norte, it appears before Limp Bizkit went out to perform, as Manson and Lindsay were talking with Fred Durst in the halls, Durst gestured for Wes Borland to come over. I don't know who felt more awkward in that situation, especially since Borland had his mask on, but Manson not only managed to maintain his humor and smile, but very magnanimously gave him a hug, and it appears Lindsay shook hands with him. After a few words were quickly exchanged, Borland cordially walked away to perform. Whether this brought an end to an awkward feud, brought on and maintained by Borland, is unknown, but if he really believed what he has been saying that Manson was essentially a serial rapist who wanted to kill his exes, as the accusers were saying and he told people to believe, then this encounter would never have happened and an argument would have ensued, at the very least. Whether or not they now like each other and have put all enmity behind them, Manson and Lindsay made a major statement that speaks volumes of their magnanimous nature and desire to move on in a positive manner, while for Borland it simply shows he said things he never should have said, otherwise this was a major display of two-faced hypocrisy.
