The Finnish publications Seiska and Findance published some new photos of Marilyn Manson, who was spotted with former Rob Zombie bassist Piggy D in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles after going to Mexicali restaurant. These photos were taken on Wednesday, April 24th 2024.
Before Dan Cleary was Marilyn Manson's personal assistant in 2014, he worked as a keyboard tech for the 2007-08 Rape of the World Tour. Before Evan Rachel Wood named Marilyn Manson as her abuser in February 2021, Dan Cleary named him as her abuser in September 2020, which is why he is featured so prominently in Evan Rachel Wood's documentary Phoenix Rising, where Evan describes him as the one who changed everything.
Here I would like to only address one claim made by Dan Cleary, which he has repeatedly made. Dan likes to make big claims that upon examination prove to be exaggerated, presenting himself as more insightful and important than he really is. I wanted to see if this was the case also with the claim that he supposedly witnessed Evan being abused over time. Let's see what he said about it in September 2020 on Twitter:
On his February 18, 2021 podcast, where he further explained what he witnessed with Evan, Dan says that he wrote his September 2020 tweet after an abusive incident that happened to a friend of his that week, and he didn't really think about what he was posting, but he very angry because Evan was getting a lot of bad comments on social media and not being believed. He goes on to say: "I didn't have a ton of access to Manson then. I didn't have a ton of access to Evan. At the beginning of the tour, she was very sweet. Every day she would come to the stage, for a soundcheck or a show, and she and I would exchange Anchorman lines. Anchorman had just come out, so we sort of bonded over Anchorman. She was very kind, I did not know her well. Back then, Manson and his world were a bit secluded from the crew, but people that worked on the tour that were closer to him would sort of let the rest of the crew in on some secrets and talk about private stuff that was going on. I was very very new to touring then, so I was like: 'Okay, just keep things to yourself, mind your business and do your job.' And in my Twitter fit from September I said I noticed she changed a lot over the course of the year; her demeanor changed, her physical looks changed, she got skinnier, her whole aura just became darker. Pairing that with what I heard was going on, I said: 'Okay, well, there's weird shit going on, and she's kinda being mistreated.' And I didn't think about it for a long time."
In Phoenix Rising, after Evan talks about how her physical appearance changed while she was with Manson, which she ridiculously tries to prove through his paintings of her, Dan Cleary is shown chiming in during the October 2020 Survivor's Meeting to add: "That's what I noticed most about my tour with you, is your physical change over the course of a year, skinnier, almost shy. Talk within the camp was that you were doing as much drugs as he was."
With this in mind, let's see if we can figure out what Dan Cleary was talking about. Let's take a look at some photos of Evan throughout the course of the Rape of the World Tour to see this alleged dramatic physical change in Evan. Contrary to what Dan says, the tour actually lasted nine months, from May 26, 2007 until March 2, 2008, though I believe Evan stopped touring by mid to late February in order to film The Wrestler.

And that's it. Did you notice the dramatic change? Of course, I'm only talking right now about the physical appearance. Right, neither did I. In fact, except for the last two photos when Evan colored her hair brown for The Wrestler, there is virtually no change to Evan. And this is all Dan would have seen of Evan, except the look from the last two photos. It wasn't until April 2008, more than a month after the tour was over, that Evan began experimenting with her hair almost monthly, coloring it in various colors and styling it with various lengths and styles, and this was because she was attending many award shows and promoting her films. Was Dan exaggerating as he is wont to do? I believe so.
Keep in mind, Dan says he is judging Evan primarily by how she communicated with him in the beginning and how she communicated with him in the end, which was extremely limited anyway because the crew was always separated from Manson and the main people around Manson. Dan never takes into account that perhaps Evan didn't care to communicate with Dan beyond being nice to him in the beginning. Of course he doesn't consider this, because Dan is such a narcissist that he probably thinks it was Manson keeping her away and that she couldn't have possibly not wanted to strike a friendship with his charming self. Dan is the coolest - in his own eyes.
The fact of the matter is that the explanation for Dan's imaginary image of Evan being abused comes down to gossip and conspiracy (UFO's is one of his favorite subjects). Dan loves gossip. You can tell he loves gossip and conspiracies if you listen to his podcast, and if you read carefully his descriptions above, he is so naive that he will form his opinions about people based on gossip alone. He even hinted this in one of his tweets from January 2015 when he was a guitar tech on another tour with Manson:
Gossipy tidbits combined with his active conspiratorial imagination made Dan Cleary project an image of abuse on Evan. This is why he couldn't see things clearly, but rather like the image at the top of this post suggests, Dan sees things through a reflection, and the first person in the reflection he sees is his narcissistic self, and everything revolves around him, which is why he decided to get involved in defending Manson's accusers as if he was a witness to abuse, which he was not. This will be further examined elsewhere in more detail, but for now as far the claim that Evan showed physical signs of abuse while on tour that only he apparently figured out, the evidence shows that there is no substance behind it.
But if you want to give Dan the benefit of the doubt, there may be one instance that threw him off into believing Evan had dramatically changed in appearance. In an interview with New York Magazine published
on August 17th 2007, which was in the middle of the tour, Evan Rachel
Wood says she was obsessed with Dracula after watching the 1931 version,
to the point where she changed her make up and hair style because of it. She said:
"The other day, I watched the old Bela Lugosi Dracula movie, and I became obsessed. I went out and completely did the twenties smoky eyes, deep lips, and crazy hair." This is as good of an explanation as any, since Dan in reality based his "observation" entirely on gossip, his wild conspiratorial imagination, and the need to be relevant.
