Today, August 14, 2026, Marilyn Manson officially releases One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2, the long-awaited second half of the story that began with 2024's Chapter 1. The nine-track album brings the One Assassination Under God era to its conclusion, with Manson once again inviting listeners into a world of death, resurrection, darkness, light, conflict, fallen angels, revenge, wounds, and ultimately love.
When the album was announced, Manson described Chapter 2 as the record that would “complete my story,” saying that he used “each stone that was thrown” at him to sharpen his edges and that he had “outgrew purgatory.” Those words provide an intriguing lens through which to approach the album, particularly after the themes established on Chapter 1.
But the release isn't limited to the music itself. Manson has also unveiled a new music video for “Unalive,” directed by Anthony Silva, a longtime collaborator dating back to Manson's Phantasmagoria project for which he directed the trailer. The video adds another visual dimension to the album's opening track and its themes of death, confrontation and rebirth.
Perhaps most intriguingly, Manson has also opened a Virtual Art Exhibit, allowing fans to walk through a virtual gallery containing his paintings associated with the songs from both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. The exhibit offers something particularly valuable for those interested in the deeper meaning behind this body of work: Manson himself narrates portions of the exhibit, providing background and insight into individual paintings and the songs with which they are connected.
The nine songs on Chapter 2—“Unalive,” “Don’t Answer the Door,” “Front Toward Enemy,” “All the Vilest Things,” “The Arsonist,” “None of the Suns,” “Lucifer’s Teardrop,” “Exit Wound,” and “Enantiomorph”—complete a project that feels deeply connected not only to the events of Manson's recent years, but also to the mythology, literature, religion, cinema and visual art that have informed his work throughout his career.
With the album now in our hands, the story can finally be heard in its entirety. What exactly is being buried? What rises from the ashes? What does it mean to be a fallen angel trying to find his way home? And, after everything that has happened, what ultimately survives?
