EXIT WOUND: Marilyn Manson and the Godforsaken One

(When "Exit Wound" was released as a single, before Chapter 2 was released and prior to Manson releasing the artwork and commentary that accompany the song, I wrote my initial thoughts about it, titled " The Scar Left After the Spectacle: Marilyn Manson Releases New Single and Announces New Album ." Without repeating too much of what was written there, the following was written in light of the new information provided with the release of the whole album.) An exit wound is the mark left by something that has passed through the body. It is evidence of an injury, but also of movement: something entered, passed through, and left its mark behind. In Marilyn Manson's “Exit Wound,” the image takes on a much larger meaning. The speaker does not merely describe himself as someone who has been wounded. He identifies himself with the wound itself: “You shot the world I am the exit wound.” It is a strange identification. The speaker is not simply the victim of an attack; he...

Marilyn Manson Celebrates His 56th Birthday

Last year at Marilyn Manson's 55th birthday party, he announced: "2024 is gonna be our year!", and indeed 2024 marked a successful comeback for Marilyn Manson in his career with the release of a new album and a North American tour. This year also he was able to celebrate his birthday on January 5th, surrounded by family and friends. Unlike the previous few birthday celebrations for Manson, this year his birthday also got a good amount of media attention, primarily due to some guests who showed up to celebrate him in Hollywood. Among those in attendance were The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan and James Iha, Filter’s Richard Patrick, Falling in Reverse’s Ronnie Radke, Mötley Crüe’s John 5 and Wednesday 13. Multiple people in attendance posted photos and video footage of the party, including the moment Manson was serenaded with "Happy Birthday To You" by everyone, with his wife Lindsay by his side. After blowing out the candles on his custom-made cake, he made a s...

An Analysis of Marilyn Manson's "One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1" (Part 2)

...continued from part one. After my analysis of the first track "One Assassination Under God", I wanted to offer a brief analysis of its accompanying music video. The music video was released on the same day the album was released, November 22nd 2024, and like the other three videos released before it from the same album, it was directed by Bill Yukich. - The video opens with a bird's-eye view of Marilyn Manson walking on a dirt road. We then see him seated alone at a set table with empty seats in a dark room lit only by a number of red and white candles. In front of him is a birthday cake with what looks like around 8 candles lit and surrounding him are 7 red balloons suspended in the air; 3 attached to the back of his chair and 1 attached to each of the 4 empty chairs. This is where he sings the opening lines: "You gave us what we wished for, a few tangled strings attached." I think here Manson wants to correlate the first lines of the song with the idea of...
